Environmental Protection....Why?
Thursday December 8, 2016 (9:00 am - 11:30 am)
The goal of wastewater treatment is to protect the environment so our future businesses and generations can enjoy the same benefits as we do presently. Regardless of intentions, accidents do happen and we need to be prepared to minimize their effects. An accident could involve an oil spill, stormwater contamination, or even a slug discharge of hazardous material. In order to effectively handle these scenarios, wastewater operators and other facility personnel should be familiar with the causes, planning, and remediation related to each of these accident types. This 2 ½ hour presentation is intended to review the regulatory requirements related to Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), and Slug Control Plans. The presentation will delve into the concerns/environmental effects related to each of these accident categories to better appreciate and understand their purpose.

Understanding and Interpreting Engineering Drawings
Thursday December 8, 2016 (1:00 pm - 3:00 pm)
Wastewater treatment system operators are responsible for the regular and routine maintenance of wastewater treatment systems consisting of a variety of process controls, instrumentation, and equipment that has been constructed in accordance with an engineering design. In addition, operators must understand where wastewater is generated at the facility and how the waste is conveyed to the treatment system. Design plans and as-built facility drawings are often available to the wastewater treatment operators, however they often go unused because operators are not familiar with how to interpret the information presented. Often times there are features engineered into a treatment system design or facility features revealing wastewater sources shown on the available drawings that operators are unaware of because they don’t refer to the plans. This 2 ½ hour course provides an overview on how to interpret engineering drawings, including facility plans, system profiles, equipment details, and process and instrumentation drawings. A sample set of facility plans and design plans will be provided and a workshop will be conducted to assist operators in learning how to identify system features and process controls presented in the plan set.

Something New from Something Old
Thursday December 15, 2016 (9:00 am - 11:30 am)
One of the most difficult hurdles to overcome when upgrading an Industrial Wastewater Pretreatment System is implementation of these upgrades while still operating the treatment system. These upgrades can include adding new equipment or even replacing/repairing old equipment. Being able to effectively minimize, or sometimes eliminating, system downtime takes detailed planning and coordination with multiple contractors and groups. The goal of this 2 ½ hour presentation is to provide recommendations and develop thought patterns to assist operators with effectively implementing upgrades without disrupting upstream activities.

Acid...Not Always as Bad as it Sounds
Thursday December 15, 2016 (1:00 pm - 3:00 pm)
Over the years, the word acid has taken on a negative connotation in the English language. In some cases this is rightfully so, because many acids are dangerous. However, the truth is that society uses and even consumes many types of acid. In this 2 ½ hour presentation, students will learn the properties and behavior of acid compounds. We will also explore the domestic and industrial use of various acids. As a hands-on activity, participants will measure the pH of several commonly used solutions.

CAPACCIO has developed a self-paced course to prepare wastewater treatment operators for the Massachusetts certification exam. The course consists of an introduction and eight modules that can be navigated at your own pace, and includes quizzes to measure progress.

After completing the self-study portion of the course you will attend two 5-hour classroom sessions taught by one of our instructors at our Marlborough, Massachusetts offices to review the course material, ask questions, take practice exams and further prepare you for taking the licensing exam. Each of these "live" sessions is approved for 5 TCHs.

Registration Details: Self-Paced WWT Operator Exam Prep Training

Register now and you will receive our self-study CD and the California State University "Industrial Waste Treatment" Volume I, Third Edition textbook. You will also be enrolled in our upcoming review sessions to be held on Friday September 9th and September 16th*, however we will be holding review sessions periodically throughout the year and attendance can be deferred to a future date if desired.

Enrollment options:

Training is conducted at your facility to evaluate your current wastewater treatment system and identify ways to optimize existing systems. This course is 6 hours-MassDEP approved for TCH.

On-Site Evaluation and Optimization Course

For those operators who need training contact hours (TCHs) but find it difficult to attend off-site training and who are looking for ways to reduce operating costs...this course is for you.

CAPACCIO will visit your facility to conduct a wastewater treatment system evaluation and optimization. An experienced engineer will meet with your wastewater treatment operations staff and assist in evaluating and identifying ways to optimize existing systems. Training will begin with the development of process flow diagrams for existing operations, followed by a review of existing treatment operations and equipment. We will assist operators in understanding how the existing system works and identify opportunities to minimize wastewater flows and maximize treatment efficiency.

This course is a 6 hour MassDEP-approved TCH course and is billed at a flat rate regardless of the number of operators who attend from your firm.

Custom Training Options

We provide cost-effective training for clients that have several operators covering multiple shifts, which saves money and reduces production down time.
