Course Summaries

Heavy Metals Mania
Thursday December 13, 2018 (9:00 am - 11:30 am)
From a ballpoint pen on your desk to satellites in outer space, metals are everywhere. With boundless uses, their dangers can be easily overlooked. Common wastewater treatment technologies, including those present at a municipal treatment facility, are not intended to remove heavy metals. Therefore, treatment and removal must occur in the industrial sector.
This 2-1/2 hour presentation is designed to give operators a better understanding of the source of heavy metals, their dangers, and what can be done to remove them in industrial wastewater treatment systems.

Pollution is Not a Solution
Thursday December 13, 2018 (1:00 pm - 3:00 pm)
Everyday items, many we take for granted, can have untold effects on both human health and the environment. What are some of these issues associated with specific pollutants? What risks occur from heavy metal pollution? How about oils and solvents? What about different dissolved gases (or lack thereof)?
This 2-1/2 hour presentation is designed to give operators a better understanding of the importance of effective industrial wastewater collection and treatment systems and the purposes behind their implementation by covering the effects of common pollutants and their specific impact, including immediate and long term impacts, on human health and the environment.

Organic Solvent Removal
Thursday December 20, 2018 (9:00 am - 11:30 am)
Many organic solvents (i.e. methanol, ethanol, toluene, acetone) are used throughout industry for a variety of purposes. This is especially true in cleaning operations, solvent washing of materials and distillations, and as additives in other fluids. What happens when these get into the wastewater treatment system? What technologies are available to remove these materials?
As opposed to focusing on organic solids removal, this 2-1/2 hour presentation is designed to give operators a better understanding of common treatment technologies for the removal of organic solvents from wastewater. In addition, this presentation will cover techniques used to minimize the amount of organic solvents in the wastewater and other environmental and regulatory concerns associated with treatment.

Troubleshooting in Wastewater Treatment
Thursday December 20, 2018 (1:00 pm - 3:00 pm)
What happens when a manufacturing process is changed, an effluent limit is exceeded, or when effluent discharge limits are changed? Many companies will typically deal with at least one of the three scenarios presented above over the life of their treatment system.
This 2-1/2 hour presentation is designed to give operators a better understanding of the importance of troubleshooting problems and developing solutions in both industrial wastewater collection and treatment systems. In addition to discussing system modifications, this presentation will also delve into the discovery and identification of problems that develop in a system that may lead to violations of effluent limits.

CAPACCIO has developed a self-paced course to prepare wastewater treatment operators for the Massachusetts certification exam. The course consists of an introduction and eight modules that can be navigated at your own pace, and includes quizzes to measure progress.

After completing the self-study portion of the course you will attend two 5-hour classroom sessions taught by one of our instructors at our Marlborough, Massachusetts offices to review the course material, ask questions, take practice exams and further prepare you for taking the licensing exam. Each of these "live" sessions is approved for 5 TCHs.

Training is conducted at your facility to evaluate your current wastewater treatment system and identify ways to optimize existing systems. This course is 6 hours-MassDEP approved for TCH.

On-Site Evaluation and Optimization Course

For those operators who need training contact hours (TCHs) but find it difficult to attend off-site training and who are looking for ways to reduce operating costs...this course is for you.

CAPACCIO will visit your facility to conduct a wastewater treatment system evaluation and optimization. An experienced engineer will meet with your wastewater treatment operations staff and assist in evaluating and identifying ways to optimize existing systems. Training will begin with the development of process flow diagrams for existing operations, followed by a review of existing treatment operations and equipment. We will assist operators in understanding how the existing system works and identify opportunities to minimize wastewater flows and maximize treatment efficiency.

This course is a 6 hour MassDEP-approved TCH course and is billed at a flat rate regardless of the number of operators who attend from your firm.

Custom Training Options

We provide cost-effective training for clients that have several operators covering multiple shifts, which saves money and reduces production down time.
