CAPACCIO Employees Take Part in “Every Step Counts” Wellness Challenge

Employees at CAPACCIO stepped up their game recently by taking part in a company-wide wellness challenge which involved exercise and the use of pedometers. For eight weeks, employees were challenged to achieve 10,000 steps per day to promote or increase exercise and, at the same time, participate in a fun and competitive challenge at work.

CAPACCIO had a 90% participation rate in this challenge. Employees who participated received a pedometer and were challenged to log as many steps or other cardio-activities into a tracker. To gain steps, some employees scheduled 15 minute walks at 11 am and 2 pm each day. Others would go for a walk, jog, or run before or after work or at lunch, and some scheduled “walking meetings.” Cardiovascular exercises/activities such as biking, rowing, or playing softball, could also be logged and converted to equivalent steps based on the intensity of the activity. To add a competitive element to the challenge, three teams were formed: Nike, New Balance, and Adidas. The team that logged the most steps was awarded additional points which can be turned in for an award at the end of the year.

During the eight week challenge, CAPACCIO employees collectively logged 13,169,857 steps on their pedometers! Team New Balance stepped it up to win the contest with 5,229,052 steps, but the results were close and the teams were very competitive! Individually, three people did more than a million steps, six did more than ¾-million steps, fourteen did more than half-million steps, and twenty one did more than ¼-million steps!

CAPACCIO is committed to the health and well-being of its employees. We run one wellness campaign each quarter. In the spring, employees participated in a “Strive for Five” fruits and vegetables challenge where the goal was to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables each day, over a six week period. In addition to providing fun, team-building opportunities, the program helps us to keep healthy.
