Capaccio Environmental
Engineering, Inc.
Wins “Best Places To Work” Award |
|
October 9,
2008 - Boston, MA – The Environmental Business Council of
New England (EBC) recently announced that Capaccio
Environmental Engineering, Inc. (CAPACCIO), a
Marlborough-based environmental, health and safety consulting
and engineering firm, received first place in their second
annual “Best Places To Work” challenge. |
 |
|
The challenge, created by the
EBC, invites environmental companies to participate by having
employees anonymously complete on-line surveys about the
company’s work environment and philosophies. Specific questions
relating to benefits,
compensation, mentoring, telecommuting, staffing,
feeling valued,
alignment of goals, co-worker
trust, work engagement and the like are covered
in the survey, with a certain level of employee participation
required to remain eligible in the contest.
Winners
were chosen based on the survey data and announced at the EBC’s
Annual Meeting held on September 19. Each winner received
recognition through various EBC publications and was given the
EBC’s 2008 “Best Places to Work” stamp of approval logo to use
on their website and in marketing materials.
“Great people working together to do
great things made this award possible for us,” said Lisa Wilk,
owner and CEO of CAPACCIO. “We have a fun, inspiring, talented
team who are passionately engaged with challenging projects and
continually developing professionally to be leaders in the
field. I would like to thank each and every employee for
helping us achieve this distinguished award. They are the reason
CAPACCIO is one of the best places to work.”
Founded in
1992 by Robert S. Capaccio, the firm continues to grow as it
focuses on its mission of helping industry and the environment
prosper. CAPACCIO specializes in environmental, health and
safety consulting and engineering services in the Manufacturing,
Semi-Conductor/Electronics, Bio-Tech/Life Sciences and

"TEAM CAPACCIO" Completes Run of the Charles Canoe Race
|
On April 27, over 1500 paddlers and
hundreds of spectators gathered for the
26th Run of the Charles Canoe
and Kayak Race for
a day of exciting paddling races and to also support the
Charles River Watershed Association (CRWA). |
 |
The day’s events
ranged from expert to novice including a 24-Mile Relay Race for
corporate teams, a 19-Mile, 9-Mile, and 6-Mile race for
recreational paddlers, and a $5,000 Professional Flatwater Canoe
Marathon, featuring elite paddlers from across the United States
and Canada.
This year, CAPACCIO took
on the challenge and formed a team to compete in the corporate
relay race. "This was a fun way for our company to cultivate our
strong team spirit and to also help the environment by
supporting the Charles River Watershed Association," said
CAPACCIO’s President Lisa Wilk. "We finished in just over 5
hours. It was hard work, but we also had a lot of fun. I am
proud of the teamwork and effort put forth by our company."
Employees from CAPACCIO,
including Wilk, formed "Team CAPACCIO" and competed in the
corporate relay, which consisted of five legs of two-person
canoes over a 24-mile stretch of the Charles River. Other
employees formed a support crew and organized a great post-race
cookout. CAPACCIO was also honored to be represented by
Environmental Scientist Travis Wheeler, an elite paddlist, who
competed with fiancé Terese Galvin for the $5,000 prize in the
Professional Flatwater Canoe Marathon. The pair finished third
in the mixed class, and 14 th
overall.
The corporate CAPACCIO
team got geared up for the big day with a lesson and practice
session led by Wheeler at Hopkinton State Park, and with a
series of meetings to work out all of the logistics associated
with a 24-mile relay race that had team members carrying the
boat on land over ½ mile at times. "This race can be very
tricky, and many things needed to be considered," said Wheeler.
"I wanted to be sure the team was prepared on water or on land
when passing the canoe to one another or carrying it from
portage to portage during the relay."
CAPACCIO is fully
committed to supporting environmental causes. Among its many
efforts include company participation in the 2007 Earth Day
clean-up of the Charles River, instituting green practices at
work, involvement in blood drives and providing scholarships to
young engineers. CAPACCIO is also a founding member of the
Corporate Wetlands Restoration Partnership (CWRP), an initiative
aimed at preserving, restoring, enhancing and protecting aquatic
habitats throughout the United States.
"As a firm, CAPACCIO’s
mission is to "Help Industry and the Environment Prosper," said
Wilk, "and we have worked together with our industrial and
institutional clients simultaneously to ensure both they and the
environment thrive."
At the conclusion of the
race, canoeists, co-workers and spectators enjoyed food booths,
live music, awards, outdoor sports demonstrations, and post-race
picnics at Herter Park in Brighton.
